Year 2 educational visit to the Royal Armouries

Year 2 educational visit to the Royal Armouries

Year 2 had a fantastic trip to the Royal Armouries! We went to consolidate our learning on the United Kingdom and the roles of Monarchs and their staff. In the workshop, the children learned about how knights and castles were introduced to Britain by William the Conqueror after the Battle of Hastings in 1066. They took part in hands-on activities, dressing up as squires and learning about their roles, including serving food, scooping poo, and cleaning armour! The children explored the different parts of a knight￿s armour, learning their official names and how each piece helped protect the knight in battle. They also enjoyed the story of Sir George and his castle, discovering how a dragon destroyed it and then working together to rebuild the castle and its walls. Additionally, the children had the opportunity to explore a range of weapons like those in the Royal Armouries and learned about how different countries protected themselves, comparing similarities and differences between them.
