Silk Road Founders – The children in Silk Road Founders discovered that silk was the most important material traded along the Silk Roads. Today, we designed and created our own unique patterns that could be printed onto silk and made into beautiful fabrics.
Polar Pioneers used a print to recreate the graphic artwork of Inuit artist Kenojuak Ashevak. The children discovered that printing with paints can make a dramatic and brightly coloured effect and that it was important to be careful and gentle to ensure the technique worked well.
Nile Navigators - The children created African sunset silhouettes on salt dough. They carefully painted warm sunset backgrounds before adding striking black silhouettes, creating eye-catching pieces of art inspired by African landscapes. We also explored Alaa Awad's artwork by completing a digital jigsaw on Purple Mash. This helped the children to spot colours, patterns and details in his paintings while developing their observation skills.
Amazon Guardians- Looked at the Brazilian artist Romero Britto and how he uses pop art in his masterpieces. The children then created their own amazon rainforest animal using pop art. We looked at how in Peru weaving is popular. The children had a go at paper weaving. We looked at the different tropical birds in the amazon rainforest and drew a representation of these. Finally, the children drew a red eyed frog and used tissue paper to create a collage of these.
The Patagonia Pathfinders looked at the art of Viviana de Torres Curth an Argentinian surrealist painter, using her work as inspiration we created Disco Llamas. We also studied the landscape paintings of Cristina Otamendi, taking inspiration from her use of colour and shapes within the Patagonian landscape to create a watercolour picture.
The Tiki Voyagers used Herb Kawainui Kāne’s artwork as inspiration to create our own watercolour paintings of Polynesian voyagers sailing across the Pacific Ocean. We explored how to use watercolour techniques to create a beautiful sky and ocean scene. We experimented with blending colours, creating lighter and darker tones and using different brushstrokes to capture the movement of the waves and the changing colours of the sea.
The Coral Reef Explorers created an underwater scene inspired by Claire Rojas using bold shapes, vibrant colours and patterns.
