Children in Years 4, 5 and 6 took part in an important assembly exploring hate crime, prejudice and the importance of treating everyone with kindness and respect. They learned how harmful words and actions can affect others, why celebrating differences matters and how we can all help to create a safe, inclusive school community. The assembly encouraged children to reflect on their own behaviour, challenge discrimination appropriately and understand the importance of standing up for others. Together, we explored how small actions can make a big difference in making everyone feel valued, respected and welcome.

This week, our Early Years and Year 1 children have been taking part in Bikeability, a fun and engaging programme designed to help young children develop confidence and essential cycling skills. Throughout the week, the children have learnt how to carry out simple bike safety checks, wear their helmets correctly, and control their bikes safely. They have practised balancing, steering, starting and stopping, as well as learning how to be aware of others around them while riding. It has been wonderful to see their confidence grow as they have challenged themselves, developed new skills, and enjoyed being active outdoors. We are very proud of all the children for their enthusiasm, determination, and excellent effort throughout the sessions.

Year 1 highlights 14th Jul 2026
5 images

Throughout the year, we have been learning lots of new vocabulary and exploring the meanings of different words. In our recent book for English, Stella and the Seagull, we read that “the highlight of Stella’s day was when the seagull came to visit.” We discussed what the word highlight means and learnt that it is a special or favourite part of something. This inspired us to reflect on our own highlights of Year 1. We shared memorable moments, exciting learning experiences, and the achievements we are most proud of from throughout the year.

Year 2 educational visit to the Royal Armouries 17th Jun 2026
54 images

Year 2 had a fantastic trip to the Royal Armouries! We went to consolidate our learning on the United Kingdom and the roles of Monarchs and their staff. In the workshop, the children learned about how knights and castles were introduced to Britain by William the Conqueror after the Battle of Hastings in 1066. They took part in hands-on activities, dressing up as squires and learning about their roles, including serving food, scooping poo, and cleaning armour! The children explored the different parts of a knight’s armour, learning their official names and how each piece helped protect the knight in battle. They also enjoyed the story of Sir George and his castle, discovering how a dragon destroyed it and then working together to rebuild the castle and its walls. Additionally, the children had the opportunity to explore a range of weapons like those in the Royal Armouries and learned about how different countries protected themselves, comparing similarities and differences between them.

The children sang along enthusiastically and thoroughly enjoyed the assembly. Following the assembly, all pupils took part in interactive workshops. Some children were selected to play instruments and perform as part of a band, while the rest of the pupils joined in by singing and keeping the beat through body percussion. Together, they worked towards performing a well-known song, creating a fun and engaging musical experience for everyone involved. Year 3 Roman Day 22nd Apr 2026
15 images

Year 3 launched their new History unit, Emperors and Empires, with an unforgettable Roman Workshop last Thursday. The children explored the legendary founding of Rome and brought history to life through engaging drama, reenacting key moments from Roman history. They had the unique opportunity to handle replica ancient artefacts and even try on Roman armour, helping them to better understand what life was like for people living in the Roman Empire. They also learnt and practised Latin phrases that would have been used in Ancient Rome. The day was filled with fun as they played traditional games that Roman children might have enjoyed, including balancing a small item on the back of their hand and taking part in a strength challenge. A highlight for many was taking part in a mock battle, where they worked together to form a testudo (tortoise formation) using their shields. The workshop was led by Ancient Visitor, whose engaging and knowledgeable approach captivated the children throughout the day. It was a fantastic learning experience and the children came away with a deeper understanding and enthusiasm for Roman history.

Ley Top Book Day 4th Apr 2026
35 images

Ley Top celebrated World Book Day with a strong focus on reading across the whole day. Each class focused on one key book, linked to their class name or to an author from that region. Children spent time reading the text and talking about the characters, settings and main events. All activities were linked closely to reading, including making predictions, sharing ideas and short pieces of writing based on their book. A highlight of the day was the paired reading session. For half an hour, older children read with younger children from across the school. They helped them with reading words and using expression, while younger children listened carefully and joined in. The session was calm, focused and thoroughly enjoyed by all. The day helped to build confidence and a love of reading across the school.

Children got up close and personal with a range of animals today when ZooLab visited school. Spiders, snakes, snails and some more cuddly animals were introduced to the children so that they could learn about their needs, how they have adapted to their natural environments and how we can protect them for future generations. Children (and staff) were given the opportunity to handle some of the creatures with some choosing to keep a ‘safe distance’.
