Modern Foreign Languages- Spanish
At Ley Top Primary School, we believe that the learning of the Spanish language provides a valuable educational, social and cultural experience for all of our pupils. The learning of a language enables our children to develop socially whilst broadening their understanding of the world and it’s many cultures.
Ley Top Primary provides a fun, engaging and inspiring Spanish curriculum following the programme set by Rachel Hawkes. Having recently taught French, we have decided to move to Spanish as we believe this language to be more appropriate for our children for a number of reasons. As this is our first year teaching Spanish, children from years 3 to 6 will all be completing the year 3 programme of study. This will however be differentiated to meet the needs of all pupils across Key Stage 2.
Our aims here at Ley Top Primary School;
To provide a valuable educational, social and alternative cultural experience for all pupils.
To develop communication and literacy skills that lay the foundation for future language learning. Pupils develop linguistic competence, extend their knowledge of how other languages work and explore differences and similarities between the foreign language and English.
To raise awareness of our multilingual and multicultural world and introduce an international dimension to pupils learning, giving them a deeper insight into their own culture and those of others.
Creative Curriculum-To provide an opportunity for cross-curricular links and for the reinforcement of knowledge, skills and understanding developed in other subjects.
To increase each individual’s aspirations by providing a wealth of new experiences.
