Internet Safety

Children at Ley Top Primary have computers, netbooks and Internet access to help our learning.

The following rules will keep everyone safe and help us be fair to others:

  • These rules need to be followed in school and at home.
  • I will ask permission from a member of staff/ parent before using the Internet:
  • I will not access other people’s files
  • I will use the computers only for school work and homework
  • I will only email people I know, or my teacher has approved
  • The messages I send will be polite and sensible
  • I will not give my home address or phone number or arrange to meet someone, unless my parent, carer or teacher has given permission
  • I will never send my picture or any other personal information to a person unless my parent, carer or teacher has given permission
  • I will never send any information eg the name or photograph of another person in an email or over the Internet
  • I will tell a teacher if I see anything I am unhappy with or I receive messages I do not like
  • I understand that the school may check my computer files and will monitor the Internet sites I visit: The Headteacher receives a weekly report that monitors internets site, netbooks and words that are entered.
  • I will remember to LOG OUT when I have finished my session.

Children at Ley Top use the Internet on a regular basis as part of their learning. In school, we have regular ‘e-safety’ activities to remind children of the importance of keeping themselves safe online. This is taught throughout the year. All children complete a e-safety module during the autumn term in Computing curriculum lessons or in PSHE.

At home, sometimes children can be given unsupervised access to the Internet. This, potentially, allows them to access all kinds of society (both good and bad) and bring them virtually into their homes. When letting children use websites, it is always worth checking the terms and conditions of the website – many websites have minimum ages – for example, Facebook has a policy which states you must be 13 or over to have an account.
