Key Stage 1 and 2
In these key stages children are taught in mixed ability classes according to their age. There are two classes each for the year groups Reception to Year 4. Years 5 and 6 are mixed and spread across 4 classes.
All the children are taught the full range of National Curriculum subjects, plus Religious Education, Personal Social Education Citizenship and Health. The national curriculum is divided into core subjects and foundation subjects.
The school delivers the foundation subjects through a carefully planned ‘Creative Curriculum’. This curriculum is linked directly to children’s interests and in line with recent changes from DfE.
Numeracy and Literacy are taught using the new Primary Framework, supported by a rigid and intense morning timetable based upon basic skills.
All children are taught within their class groups. All work is planned and prepared by the teachers and delivered to the children at the correct level for their needs. Clear and thorough assessments form the basis of all teachers’ planning.
We are fortunate to have a number of experienced and qualified teaching assistants who work closely with teachers and groups of children.
We have 4 assessment periods across the school year, equally divided into school weeks (every 8 or 9 weeks).
